Skew Sickness

METAPHYSICAL ILLNESS EXPLAINED

Skew Sickness is a metaphysically transmitted disease that is caught exclusively within the Skew. You cannot catch Skew Sickness from an infected person; you can only get it via contact with the Skew itself. It is possible to become infected within any of the domains, but the chance of contraction increases the deeper into the Skew you go. It is for this reason that we discourage any exploitation of the Skew without approved BSTCE personnel and equipment on hand.

What are the Symptoms of Skew Sickness?

  • Prickling/itching/crawling sensation of the skin
  • Excessive sweating
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Rash
  • Recent increase of physical ability (strength/speed/hearing/etc.)
  • Hearing sounds or voices that other people cannot hear
  • Memory gaps or “wiggly memories”
  • Hyperfixation of a specific goal/idea/place/thought/emotion
  • Paranoia—usually expressed as the feeling of being watched
  • Aggression and violent behaviour directed at oneself and others

How does the BSTCE protect its Field Researchers?

Our researchers are the heart of our organisation. Their dedication to our cause has resulted in some truly incredible discoveries, including deciphering the Skew itself. Their protection is paramount to the BSTCE.

Each Away Team researcher is equipped with a special respirator and reality-stabilising protective gear that drastically decreases the chances of contracting Skew Sickness. More advanced equipment is constantly being developed within our facility, allowing for safer travels and even more discoveries to be made. The BSTCE is happy to loan out its equipment to authorised external bodies, but does not currently supply to the general public.

We cannot emphasise enough that going into the Skew, even while wearing protective equipment, is unsafe and ill-advised.

I think I Have Contracted Skew Sickness—What Should I Do?

If you or someone you know has contracted Skew Sickness, it is imperative to leave the Skew as soon as possible. If leaving the Skew is not possible, or there is a chance of accidentally progressing deeper, find somewhere safe and wait for a BSTCE employee. If you are experiencing paranoia or unusual aggression, please find a way to physically restrain yourself, such as rope or zip ties—this will make extraction much easier for the BSTCE employee who finds you.

If you have already exited the Skew, please contact the BSTCE on ████████████  or visit our facility at ██ ████████   ████, Hertfordshire.

Is There a Cure?

No. There is no known cure for Skew Sickness.

While the disease cannot be reversed, exiting the Skew will halt its progression. It is important to alert the BSTCE to any possible cases of Skew Sickness so that we can monitor the condition of those infected. The BSTCE is also able to arrange for appropriate care and accommodations, if needed. Rest assured that the safest place for you is in our care.
